Simple Rules to follow while painting

Painting once house is always an event one anticipates to get completed as early as possible. It is understandable that the paint-job is one messy activity.Calgary painting companies often take due precautions to ensure that the paint is applied only to the designated areas. They spread protective sheets all around the floor to prevent the paint from falling on the flooring. While Water-based paint can easily come off with water & soap, precaution is always better. Such paint is often removed by steam cleaning too. The protective sheets come in handy especially when oil-based or latex based paint is applied. Such paint is very hard to come off & often requires aggressive chemicals to remove the ugly stains. Further they can damage the floors if not used carefully. Hence, basically, until the paint job is completed, the house appears in disarray.

Under such circumstances, one might wonder why aren’t the Calgary Painters simply applying the coats quickly & leaving. Well the answer is not so simple to answer. In a nutshell, paint work can never be hurried. As we have seen over our past articles, paint-job is all about practice, expertise & finesse. However, it is also about patience. Calgary painting contractorsknow When To Paint. This knowledge is as important as How to Paint. Let’s learn about some subtle rules they follow in order for us to have great looking walls.

Never Paint on a Wet Surface:

This is the most basic of all rules that Calgary residential painters follow strictly, two separate layers have to dry. The shear forces may later result in breakage of bonds & the paint might appear to flak. There are chances of the top most layer to develop bubbles as the layers below might have air entrapped, which was not released.

In case separate coats of paint are applied in a hurry to finish the job, one will experience developments of wrinkles & layer development. This happens when the different layers of paints who have dried at different rates, start to flow down slowly due to gravity. As they cannot simply drop down like curtains, wrinkles develop in the appearance. One might also correlate the final finish to the back of an alligator. Hence it is also referred to as alligatoring.

Never apply paint when it is extremely sunny:

Direct Sun is actually bad for a paint job. One might wonder, why. It actually helps paint dry sooner. The article even states do not paint on wet surfaces. However this rule helps in developing a very strong bond of paint with the primer. If the primer has got sun-burnt then it may disintegrate. Under such circumstances, the paint may start fading prematurely or develop blisters. Hence the ideal time to paint is early morning of later in the afternoon, when the Sun is not so strong. On a side note, Calgary exterior painters may even get tired very quickly working in the scorching sun!

There are some more tips about when not to paint. We will discuss in the next article.
